Tour of Italy: Friuli Venezia Giulia

Our Tour of Italy begins in Friuli-Venezia Giulia. This region—located in the north-eastern part of the country, neighboring with Austria and Slovenia, as well as with the Adriatic Sea—possesses some of the most internationally renowned vineyards. Although the region’s white wines are most famous on a global scale, there are many Friulan red wines that are as rich as they are savory.

For this Tour of Italy, we have chosen five incredible wine bottles—although you can always take advantage of other regional bottles with our numerous offers.

Rocca Bernarda Picolit, 1998, 0.5-liter bottle: 100% Picolit, this wine should be served between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius. It is a wine that presents an oily smell and a rich consistency. Concerning taste, sweetness and fruitiness are the elements that immediately stand out. Because of these characteristics, this wine is perfect to combine with cheese, eggs, and desserts.

Rujno Gravner, 1999, 0,75-liter bottle: it is not by chance that this bottle was awarded three Gambero Rosso glasses. It is a 100% Merlot, intense and balanced, fruity and rich. In order to celebrate its taste and flavor, the best meals to pair it with are ragu pasta, cheese, and red meat dishes.

Villa Russiz Pinot Grigio, 2011, 1,5-liter bottle: with its yellowish nuances, this wine is quite elegant and delicate. It presents hints of apples, pears, and toasted almonds. It is a must-have during aperitifs, but also a great choice to pair with fish or white meat dishes.

Plus Pinot Bastianich, 2000, 0,75-liter bottle: with its 14.5 degrees, this 100% Pinot Grigio is renowned not only for its complexity, but also for its long-lasting and persistent aftertaste. It is an extremely pleasant white wine, especially when served between 8-10 degrees Celsius.

Verduzzo Meroi, 2003, 0,75-liter bottle: one of the regional varieties is Verduzzo. The grape harvest, its exsiccation and pression period must follow an accurate procedure. Furthermore, the wine is refined in barriques for 18 months. All these dynamics contribute to making it an intensely spicy and fruity white wine.
