Vermentino wine, the pleasure of high quality

The Vermentino wine originated in Spain, spreading then to Corsica and Italy. In Italy, especially in recent years, this white wine has taken over the wine production to the point of becoming one of the foundations of the winemaking tradition. Obtained from the white grapevine variety of the same name, the Vermentino is cultivated mainly in the island of Sardinia and the regions of Liguria and Tuscany. Indeed, in these specific areas, it has found the ideal climate and soil for a thriving growth.Show more

For the wine enthusiasts, yet not only, the bottles of the best Vermentino wine producers are available on Enoteca Properzio, a certainty in the food and wine sector.

Vermentino, among the best Italian wines

Among the refined Italian wines, a place of honour is held by the Vermentino wine, which never gets old thanks to its unique qualities. Each area of production has its specific characteristics which distinguish them from each other: in general, it appears of a typical bright pale yellow with greenish hues. With regards to taste and smell, the Vermentino wine is mainly characterized by fruity and fresh notes immediately perceived on the palate, while its fragrance releases intense floral and herbal aromas. Its ideal pairing is with fish-based courses or shellfish, though it is worth trying with fresh cheeses and white meat recipes as well. It proves to be every bit as perfect when served as an aperitif.

Discovering the Vermentino di Sardegna (of Sardinia)

The Vermentino is one of the most cultivated and widespread vine varieties in the area of Sardinia, whose production extends over the entire territory of the island. The Vermentino di Sardegna - which has received the DOC classification at the end of the 80s - appears of a characteristic yellow with greenish hues and a light and delicate fragrance. It stands out for its dry and fresh notes. In the vicinity of the city of Sassari, this vine variety holds the DOCG recognition with the Vermentino di Gallura, distinguished wine with its complex structure and unique organoleptic qualities. To classify as Vermentino di Gallura it has to be produced with at least 95% of the Vermentino grape variety. Fresh and fruity, with its characteristically intense fragrance, it is ideally matched with fish soups and shellfish-based recipes.

A versatile, yet still delicate and refined, white wine

The Vermentino wine has origins also in Tuscany, specifically in the areas of Massa Carrara, Maremma Livornese, and in the territories of the Island of Elba. The wine originating from these particular areas, due to the unique climate and the sea’s influence, is easily recognizable from the rest of the Italian Vermentinos, revealing a floral and fruity fragrance with particular hints of citron. Balanced and well-rounded on the palate, without hiding a considerable acidity, the Tuscan Vermentino can be comfortably paired with rich starters, as well as with simple and unadorned fish courses.Show less
