Everything done on the Ornellaia estate shares the common goal of quality. This goal guides the experience, competence and determination of those involved in production of the wine:
from harvest to fermentation, when the grapes of each cru are left to ferment separately so that, according to the Ornellaia philosophy, each base wine is an essential, determining part of the final result. Indeed, the final blend that yields a perfect Ornellaia wine, elegant and with that vintage’s style, is not created until the wines have fermented in their individual casks for a year.
The origins of the Ornellaia estate, near Bolgheri, in the heart of Tuscan Maremma, are relatively recent. Count Lodovico Antinori founded Ornellaia in 1981 in an area still perfect for creating a distinctive environment where red and white wines can reach their full expression as the best manifestation of their terroir of origin. In this area not far from the Mediterranean coast, the vineyards are caressed by the cool sea breeze in the summer and the hills offer the ideal protection from the cold northerly winds in the winter.
